South America's electronic stability mandate ESP hits Chile – Global Fleet

Starting this month (October 2022), new light passenger and commercial vehicles of less than 2,500 kilos in Chile need to be equipped with electronic stability program ESP.
To increase vehicle safety in the region, the new ESP legislation is being mandated in South American countries, starting with Argentina at the beginning of the year (January, 2022).  The legislation will take affect in Brazil in January 2024 and other markets are preparing for the transition.
ESP helps reduce the possibility of skidding and spinning during evasive or emergency maneuvers. Its installation cost approximately US$60 per vehicle (est. 2021).
